I thought the Bengals were supposed to win?

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 04:15 PM EST [General]

All I heard all week was how the Bengals were almost a no doubter this week, because this was the easiest game of the season. If this was the easiest game, it is going to be a very long and very painful season. The Bengals were beaten by a new coach and a rookie QB making his first start. The Bengals need am O line in the worst way. They need some rush defense. They need some running game.

So when does UC ancd Xavier basketball start?

Bowling Ball Review - Hammer Black Widow Venom

    Core = Asymmetrical - Rg 2.520 intermediate, Differential = .060

    Cover stock =Reactive = Shine = Color = Black/Camel

Surface = Out of Box 4000 Abralon Polished

The Hammer Black Widow Venom is a high differential, asymmetrica,l polished solid reactive, bowling ball.

Conditions bowled on 42ft house pattern on wood lanes with guardian and Brunswick pro anvilane synthetic.

Bowling Ball Drilling = Pin above bridge mass bias 1.5 inches off the thumb hole a 4inches over 1/2 up.

Surface used I adjusted the surface with 2000 abralon..

Type of bowler 250 rev rate 16 mph stroker.

Test results the wood lanes had more back end than the pro anvilane. My intent was to have a solid reactive bowling ball with end over end roll somewhere in between the bite and pearl reaction with this drilling layout and bowling ball cover stock, also I wanted a more angular ball. I believe I achieved my goal. I did have a better reaction on the wood lanes do to the friction but my scores were great on both surfaces. This ball seems to be more predictable than the pearl but dose not hook as early as the bite.

    Happy September.

    Sunday, September 7, 2008, 03:09 PM [General]

Summer is almost over. (officially Sept. 21). Being in the Midwest U.S. I am cherishing the short time left of warm weather. I know Fall is always a beautiful season around here but I'm not ready to let go of summer just yet. I have healed well from my mastectomy 6/26 & I changed my original plans & had breast reconstructive surgery on 8/29. I am sore & tired but content with my decision. Now I will have saline injected into the pouches that were surgically implanted. Saline will be injected approx. every week until they reach a comfortable size. I am happily anticipating my "new look".  Has anyone had experience with this procedure?

    WWE RIGHT NOW

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 04:05 PM EST [General]

THE WWE RIGHT NOW IS IN GOOD SHAPE I THINK. I LIKE HOW THEY ARE BRINGING UP ALOT OF YOUNG GUYS. THE IN RING WRESTLING HAS GOTTEN ALOT BETTER.

THERE ARE SOME CHANGES THAT NEED TO BE MADE THOUGH. ONE OF WHICH IS THE WRESTLERS GIMMICKS. GIMMICKS USED TO BE AN IMPORTANT PART OF WRESTLING. NOW DAYS THE WRESTLERS DONT GET TO USE THERE GIMMICKS THE WAYS WRESTLERS USED TO.  WRESTLERS LIKE FESTUS AND JESSE SHOULD HAVE SOME BACK STAGE STUFF GOING ON TO SHOW THEIR SOUTHERN BACK GROUND. IN THE ATTITUDE ERA WRESTLERS THAT DIDNT WRESTLE THAT DAY USUALLY HAD SOMTHING GOING ON IN THE BACK.

I DONT LIKE THE ECW SMACKDOWN TALENT EXCHANGE. IT GETS CONFUSING ON WHO IS ON WHAT SHOW. AND REALLY BETWEEN THESE SHOWS DOES IT REALL MATTER? I MEAN WHEN YOU HAVE SHELTON(ECW) WIN THE U.S. TITLE BUT NOW HE IS ALWAYS ON SMACKDOWN. AND NOW HE IS GOING FOR THE WWE TITLE. WHATS THE POINT OF EVEN CALLING THEM SEPERATE BRANDS? ECW IS ONLY AN HOUR SHOW SO THEY DONT NEED A BIG ROSTER. WITH THE ADDITIONS OF THE NEW TALENT THEY DONT NEED THIS SMACKDOWN TALENT EXCHANGE.

BUT THE LIKE I SAID THE IN RING WRESTLING IS BETTER NOW AND THAT IS WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING.

HERE TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS NATE DOGG

Welcome encouragement for the stay-at-home mother

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 09:02 PM GMT [General]

The news that the Tories are planning to encourage mothers of young children to stay at home is good news indeed, but I am somewhat sceptical of the way they are proposing going about it.  They are suggesting that you should be able to "front load" child benefit - by which I assume they mean you can take now against future expectations - but I do not think they have thought this through.

My children are now teenagers, or older, and jolly expensive they are too.  Yet when they were babies, I thought how expensive they were then.  I had no idea of what was to come - and had I been able to "front load" child benefit, might well have done so.  Where would that have left me, when my marriage broke up?  Would it mean that I would then, as a single parent, have been able to draw a line under the front loading, and carry on with child benefit as though I had never had any?  Or would my children simply have had to have gone without?  In fact, of course, they would not have done - I am fortunate enough to come from a supportive family, and willing grandparents would have stepped in had the need arisen - but this is not the case for everybody, and most particularly not the case for those who might most need some extra help.

Iain Duncan Smith is right when he says that early childhood sows the seeds for what comes later  - "The research shows that the foundations for emotional well-being, kindness, empathy and concern are very immature at birth. How they develop is dramatically affected by an infant's bond with its parent."  In pure economic terms, it makes sense for babies to be brought up with a sense of self-worth, so that they do not become anti-social teenagers who drop out of school and end up in prison - all of which is very expensive indeed for the state.  I am sure that a cost-benefit analysis would show that the well-adjusted child saves rather more than the amount that it would cost to pay a mother to stay at home.  But rather than front-loading child benefit, how about allowing families a "mortgage holiday" while their children are young?  The reason that most mothers go out to work is because houses have become so enormously expensive, so that if they were able to stay at home without risking losing the family home, I venture to suggest that many more of them would choose to do so.

I do not wish the banks to lose out here - I see no reason why interest could not accrue to the sum to be paid off, and the number of years over which the mortgage was arranged would be increased accordingly.  If in Germany and Japan, they can have mortgages that run over eighty or a hundred years, then surely we can have mortgages that run for forty.  That would allow an extra fifteen years for a mother to be at home.

As a society, we have a choice - either we wish to encourage the family, which has as yet not been bettered as a unit within which to raise children - or we say, actually, we do not care how people raise their offspring: it is an individual choice, and we will spend our money on police and prisons and psychiatric services and all the other services that are most needed when people feel they do not belong.  I think, obviously, that family life is a gift that every child deserves - and time spent by a mother with her children is an investment in the future citizen as a contented and productive member of society.

At present, we have devised a system where the only mothers who can afford to stay at home with their children are either the very rich, whose hedge-fund husbands have no difficulty in keeping a stay at home wife, or those at the very bottom of society, who live disjointed lives on benefits.  It is to be welcomed if the Conservatives are to try to ensure that every child can be looked after as an infant by its own parents.  It would probably make economic sense, too, to put in place help for those who find motherhood lonely, and whose parenting skills are inadequate as they never received a proper up-bringing themselves.  I think we might all of us end up happier that way.

    Unforgiven prediction blog.

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 04:01 PM EST [General]

Well its about that time again and I am here to share with you my Unforgiven predictions. And since I have seen all the Summer Skins...I guess I cant procrastinate and watch them so...let me just start this.

World Tag Team Title Match: Cryme Time vs Priceless:
Wow a tag team match on a ppv...what a novel concept. When I first saw C.T steal there belts, I actually had high hopes for the storyline. I thought they could go really far with them stealing the belts, but that is to hard apparently. Within what 2 weeks...Priceless gets there belt back and lays out C.T in the ring after words...(and a slap) from Orton. The outcome of this match depends on what they wanna do with Priceless and Orton. There have been talks about a second generation stable for awhile now, and it looks like they planted the seeds for it on Raw. They have two roads to go down here. Either they keep the belts and Orton stays with them while he is recovered, or they lose the belts and Orton berates them about it. Which one do I see happening? I think Cryme Time comes out this match with the gold, thus keeping this feud going for awhile. Winner and NEW Tag Team champs: Cryme Time

Divas Title Match: Maryse vs Michelle McCool
It took me awhile to believe Maryse could be a legit challenger, but she does a good job at playing the heel...probably cuz Michelle is a better face and people cheer whatever she does. McCool might not have been the best choice to hold the belt over Natayla...but McCool has earned it and she has definitely improved in the ring. I think this match will come down to what happens on the outside. Whether Natayla comes down and distracts McCool long enough to lose the belt. As for the winner...I would love to see Maryse win and keep this feud going...but I think McCool might retain. Winner and still champ: Michelle McCool

Unsanctioned Match: Chris Jericho vs Shawn Michaels
This has been the best feud of the year so far and not just on matches but for the words too. Each time these two touch the mic its like magic. This is gonna be a brutal...brutal match and I expect both men to go insane on eachother. I dont wanna talk about it much because I dont want my words to lower the value. I think as far as the winner goes, it depends on what they wanna do with the feud. If they want this to go on for another PPV, I think Shawn finally wins. If they want  this to be the blow off match, I still think Shawn wins. But if they want to give Jericho a HUGE...HUGE push...then He will win. This is match is way to close to call...but I gotta go with Shawn. Winner: Shawn Michaels

ECW Scramble Match: Hardy vs Miz vs Finlay vs Chavo vs Henry
In what should be a fun match all around, I think this one has the BIGGEST chance of a title change. Now that doesnt mean it will happen, but it certainly has the best chance. And the best thing about this match is because ECW is so small, everyone in this match has a fair shot at winning this belt...but we all know what will happen. Chavo is a former champ, but I really dont think he has a chance to win. Finlay might have a shot but I dont think he will either. In my heart of hearts, I would love to have The Miz as the ECW champ. He is cocky...definitely has charisma, and has improved leaps and bounds by being on ECW, but I dont think he is ready yet. The only man to have the best shot at this is Matt Hardy. He has been close twice before, and I think he finally comes away with the belt tonight. Winner and NEW ECW champ: Matt Hardy

WWE Scramble match: Hardy vs Shelton vs MVP vs Kendrick vs Triple H:
Probably the most random scramble match, but might be the most athletic out of all three. All of the challengers are very quick and mesh well together. Shelton already has a belt, and I dont think he will win this one. Kendrick is a wild card. He has been booked very well as of late and with Ezekiel who knows what could happen, but I honestly dont think he will win. MVP and Hardy have the best shot at winning this belt. MVP has been solid on the mic and has been a great assest to Smackdown. But with the recent story that MVP has some backstage heat on him, I highly doubt they would give it to him...but more shocking things have happened and I still think MVP has the best chance at winning this belt. Hardy is extremely over and a risk taker who has beat Triple H already, but what they might not trust him to carry the ball just yet.  This match is the second best match to have a title change. Winner and NEW champion by pinning Jeff Hardy: MVP

World Heavyweight Title match: Batista vs JBL vs Kane vs Rey vs Punk
The least possible match for a title change. I dont think Rey will get it again after his last debacle as champ. Kane could be a nice choice as he has talked about retiring soon and one last run that lasts longer then a day would be nice. I dont think JBL will win it again. Batista might have a slight chance but I dont think he will. I think Punk comes out of this as champion and holds it till Orton comes back. Winner and still champ CM Punk.

Sweet Dreams - Sept short story comp.

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 08:57 PM GMT [Creative Writing]

    Sweet Dreams

“It’s the keening of the gulls I always hear. Standing on the shores of sleep, just before I step into the icy waters that now seem so deep and dark and treacherous. If I breathe in deeply I can just catch the tang of salt on my tongue and feel the cold wind lifting my hair as it whips in from the sea. I see the weak sun on my skin, through the shrouding cloud - but it no longer warms me.

“We used to run and run across such wild beaches back then, me and my sister. Family holidays in the East Neuk of Fife. Racing down to the deep rock pools, under grey skies and the ever-watchful eyes of my mother. Well, before this damn disease took her.

"I remember chasing each other against those buffeting winds, laughing, arms windmilling. And I’d look up into the sky to see gulls battling against the gusts - wheeling, diving, circling – calling to each other, crying and screaming across the waves.

“Is this alright,” she says suddenly, looking up. “The kind of thing you want?”
I am annoyed at the interruption; I do not want her to digress. But I see her eyes flinch as they meet my gaze, clearly not finding the expression she wants.  So I drag myself back from her distant shore, into the dim permanent twilight of the hospital ward, and consciously try to soften my glare and pull those thin lips into the outline of a smile.

“It’s perfect,” I whisper hoarsely. And, for now, it is. I sit by her for a little while, hungry for more: her regrets, her hopes and - more to the fore now – her fears. They are crowding in like swarming bees.

Most who work here never notice me at all, waiting in the shadows, behind those thin curtains that drape around each bed. Those that have some inkling of my presence generally let me pass. Some are fearful I guess, but others know I mean no harm - and can sometimes augur good.

It’s not as if the patients complain. Few of them object, not when I’ve talked to them, listened to them, fed off their stories for so many nights. In such heavily sedated states I could be just another soulless doctor, looming above them, desperately trying to find a viable and unbruised vein. It may sound weird, but many compliment me on my technique - but as I point out I have had years and years to hone it.

The conversations soothe them through the anxious fretful nights, when even the potent cocktails of chemicals they give them here can’t bring solace for long. And whatever enzymes course through  my body, keeping me in this world of perpetual darkness, seem to help keep them in the world of sunshine and light - well, at least for a few months more.

I, of course, get the drug-spiked blood I need. The only way I know to find the oblivion I crave. And while I wait for it to come crashing over me I have their stories, carefully collected, harvested, treasured: little signs of life in these gloomy pools of existence.

“Will it be like that?” she whispers again. “Like falling asleep? The shore? The gulls?” I can barely hear her now, but I don’t have to, I know what is coming. The question I dread. The one I cannot answer.

But I nod anyway, my eyes clouding, head heavy. “Why do you want to know all this?” she asks, a fading voice among the sleeping bodies.

“So I don’t forget,” I murmur. “Forget what it means to be human.”

Moondog 3:16 says "I just ate your wafflecone"

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 03:55 PM EST [General]

I have a bit of an ice cream headache, but I am working through it in a gutty effort to post a blog entry for my loyal readers.

As if running a 5k this morning wasn't enough, I followed that with some waffles, a nap, then a trip up to Cleveland Heights Cold Stone Ice Cream.

We had a drawing for an ice cream party at Cold Stone this year with the Cavs and in yet another heroic example of my dedication to team and community I volunteered to go eat ice cream with the winner.  I just care that much.

I cared enough to sample severval of the winner's ice cream waffles cones, mostly as quality control.  The quality was outstanding.

Here are some photos from my visit to Cold Stone.

I also want to go on record that I am available for next year's celebration.  And I would like whip cream, nuts, and one of those unnaturally red cherries on top of next year's heroic visit.

    --Dog

PS:  I also found out that Cold Stone and Stone Cold have nothing to do with each other.

    one am

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 03:54 PM EST [General]

    hey guys!

Hope everyone is well im feeling good at the moment really pumped for unforgiven in a few hours, over here in england it'll be one am when it starts (hence the name of my blog today) so im gonna be trying to stay awake to watch it, i am determind i will not miss it lol

well i had to work today, which was really kinda boring, i work as a kitchen assistant so i basically spend my whole day washing dishes, not good for my skin at all as it gets so dry. i wish i'd got a job in a store then i would at least have customers to talk to. anyway i spent my whole day thinking about unforgiven i am really that excited about it. im wondering what is going to happen with the undertaker and vickie guerrero's threats against each other, my mum came up with an idea that maybe edge will come back and try and save vickie to try get back in her good books, and if you think about it, it is possible. he hasn't been around for the past few shows... so who knows? i guess we will just have to wait and see.

i am really looking forward to the championship scrambles im not totally sure i like the idea of them, i think it's a little unfair but i suppose its kind of an interesting concept. of course i have favourites i want to win but whether they will or not considering all that has happened recently will be interesting to see.

its my first day back at college tomorrow as a third year, im kinda excited as im taking some new subjects, like ancient history and photography and im finishing my english a level which i really enjoy so i think its going to be a good year. plus my little sister will be joining me there as a first year, we get on quite well so it should be cool. im pumped about it im just hoping i don't fall asleep in class staying up late tonight lol

well im going to go now i'll speak to you all later hope you all enjoy unforgiven as much as im sure im going to enjoy it!

    xoxo

    The Weekend

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 02:44 PM CST [General]

I don't know if you heard me hacking and coughing on the air last week, but damn, that ALWAYS sounds hot.  Yesterday I was so tired from coughing that I laid around most of the day and watched TV shows about airplane crashes.  Then I watched the Gopher game on TV.  I gotta tell you, it was pretty darn exciting!

I did get one cute picture of Carson and our collie, Gracie playing on the floor.

I'm always talking about how I love Allison so much but she's 16 and doesn't have much use for me hanging around and bothering her, but the way I see it, that's my job!   So a few days ago, I told her, "Guess what?  Every weekend, you and I are going to Caribou to have coffee, play chess and talk."   Instead of protesting, she actually said, "Yeah, okay, that sounds cool."

What is this?  A breakthrough?  So we went and it was nice.  She's back to ignoring me for now but I guess that's what 16 year olds do.

And now, a completely cool and random video from Howie Mandell where he mentions me and Lena.
